Hello All…
The smallest known species is the pea crab which is about 1.2 cm and the largest is the Japanese spider crab which is about 366 cm.
Crabs are crustaceans and their soft bodies are covered by a hard shell or an exoskeleton called a “Carapace”.
Most of the crabs are marine that is sea living, but they can stay on land for long periods of time. They are found in all the world’s oceans from the shallow parts to great depths. A very few species are even found in freshwater bodies.
Crabs come out in all sorts of shapes and sizes, but all species have one pair of chelipeds or pincers and four pairs of walking legs. They use their chelipeds to hold and carry food, to dig, crack open shells and also to ward off attackers.
Just like fish, crabs breathe through their grills. They use their antennae to smell.
Crabs can move in all directions but they prefer to move sideways. Their last pair of legs is flattened and used as paddles while swimming.
They eat almost everything and are mostly omnivorous, though some survive by scavenging food.
Cheers...
