Dear Friends,
I am back again to share and narrate about a wonderful destination of ancient wisdom bestowed with eternal grace of nature which I have visited last week. The name of the place is Ramnad which is also called as Rameshwaram.
It is an island situated in the gulf of mannar at the very tip of the Indian peninsula. The island is spread in an area of 61.8 square kilometers and happens to be in the shape of a conch.
The two kilometer long Pamban Bridge also called as Indira Gandhi Bridge which connects the island of Rameshwaram with the mainland of Mandadam is one of the highlight of this place. It is the longest sea bridge in India at a length of about 2.3 km.It refers to both the road bridge and the cantilever railway bridge which was opened for traffic in the year 1914. The railroad bridge is a still functioning double-leaf bascule bridge section that can be raised to let ships pass under the bridge.
Sri Lanka is at a distance of just 24 kilometers away from ramnad and the name of the bridge which almost connects Sri Lanka with India is Adam's Bridge and it is famous for its scenic beauty.
The entire area of Ramnad is associated with various incidents from the mythological history Ramayana. The island of Rameshwaram is one of the most venerable temple towns in India and it has been believed that this is the place where Lord Rama took rest and prayed after his triumph over the demon king Ravana.
Indians consider this island as one of the most important pilgrim center.Indianpeople who follows the religion named hindu strongly believes that those who have not visited this place will not be able to attain heaven after their lifetime in the earth.
Rameshwaram is well connected with the other major cities of India. We can reach this destination by means of Rail,Road and Airlink. The right time to visit ramnad is between October and March.
I have planned to visit this ancient place again next month to have a pleasant vacation and I hope my post has taken you all a long tour.Cheers...
